Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates

Fans of Jurassic Park may want to know that Mattel is celebrating Jurassic Park’s 30th anniversary with a special diorama collectible. Perhaps it is not quite appropriate to refer to the Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates as a diorama because it isn’t small.

Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates

The Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates towers 20 inches (about 50 cm!) tall. The gate is a fan-demanded motorized entry gate and is accompanied by a Ford Explorer #5 – the first-ever for Mattel, btw, since Mattel never made the Ford Explorer #5 before.

Made no mistake. This ain’t no 1/64 scale die-cast; it is a huge vehicle that is proportional to the large gate and the rest of the Hammond Collection figures. The toy car boasts collector-level detail, including a detailed interior, rubber tires, and film-accurate deco.

There is a couple of gimmicks with this set too. When you push the Ford Explorer #5 to the gate, the gate will automatically open, complete with the sound effect of the door crackling open and ambient jungle sounds. At the same, it will trigger the playback of the original Jurassic Park theme music.

The motorized gate has manual override to allow displaying the gate opened or with the door at any position. That’s not it. The torch lights on the wall of the gate will flicker too. Aesthetically, the gate is accurately sculpted down to each crack and crevice.

The Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates is being crowdfunded on Creations.mattel.com and has several tiers.

The basic tier, Unlock 1 which requires 5,000 backers, unlocks the Jurassic Park Motorized Entrance Gates and the Ford Explorer #5.

Unlock 2 requires 6,000 backers that, when achieved, will unlock the post-electrocution Time figure as well as two enclosure fences. The fences have a flashing light to recreate the visual warning that the power is about the return.

Then there is Unlock 3 which will unlock the most important piece of this scene: Hammond Collection “Buck” T. rex featured in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. This will require 8,000 backers.

If the campaign managed to hit 10,000 backers, it will unlock the final tier, Unlock 4, which includes a Lex figure and a goat with a removable hind leg. This set will be the perfect companion to the outhouse set introduced last year the San Diego Comic-Con.

If you are keen, you can learn more about the Mattel Jurassic World Hammond Collection The Gates at creations.mattel.com where you can also back the campaign for US$250.

After you will have to keep your fingers crossed that it gets enough backers because there are 15 days on the calendar but so far there are less than 1,300 backers.
