Micro Mirrorless Yashica Camera - I’m Back

If you haven’t already heard, the Japanese camera maker Yashica is back in business. Not only has this imaging company, founded in the Shōwa era, made a comeback, but it’s also making itself relevant. First, by introducing a camera with digital film, and more recently, a pair of night vision binoculars. And now, we’ve heard it’s launching the “smallest mirrorless ever invented,” a micro mirrorless camera in collaboration with I’m Back.

But, we don’t have much information on this little giant. All we know is that I’m Back and Yashica is taking it to Kickstarter. Our current understanding is purely based on product images and a video provided to us.

From the images, Yashica’s claim of it being the “smallest mirrorless ever invented” seems accurate, as it looks incredibly small, almost toy-like, and boasts an uber minimalistic design. The device measures 50 mm tall and 77 mm wide (about 1.97 by 3.03 inches). However, the thickness is not known at this point.

Despite its diminutive size, it features a bayonet interchangeable lens system, and it seems it will launch with three lenses: a 25 mm tele lens with a 16° FoV, an 8.6 mm regular lens with a 47° FoV, and a 3.4 mm 75° wide lens.

According to the photos, it will also have a flip-out display and boasts Wi-Fi connectivity along with a microSD card slot, a USB-C port, and an HDMI port.

It’s expected to come with a tabletop tripod, a wrist strap, a USB-C to A cable (presumably for charging), and, surprisingly, a remote control for powering up/down the camera and for remote shutter control. This remote appears to have separate buttons for camera and video recording, indicating video capability.

Although that’s expected of any modern camera, let alone a mirrorless one, it’s still worth mentioning.

Oh, in the product images, it seems to have a removable external viewfinder and what looks like an external battery pack (it has a USB-C port, btw), though we can’t be sure what the latter is.
