When Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh created his masterpiece The Starry Night, he would never had thought it would be a LEGO toy collectible 130 something years latter. I pretty damn sure, he would never had imagined his world famous painting would find itself on a Bearbrick collectible figure too.
That’s right, people. Van Gogh’s The Starry Night has found its way onto Medicom Toy’s Bearbrick (stylized as BE@RBRICK). The MoMA x Medicom Bearbrick Figure is a collaborative product between the Japanese toy maker and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) Design Store in Japan.
The MoMA x Medicom Bearbrick Figure is offered in three sizes: 100% (about 70 mm) and 400% (about 280 mm) (as a set), and 1000% (around 700 mm). Each figure is made up of 9 parts, each carefully imprint with The Starry Night painting with a unique finish.
It is worthy to note that no two figures are the same. Each Bearbrick features a slightly different way of printing.
The MoMA x Medicom Bearbrick Figure will be released on August 7, 2021, at the MoMA Design Store in Japan and Hong Kong. The MoMA x Medicom Bearbrick Figure 16,500 yen (about US$150) for 100% and 400% set, and the 1000% for 66,000 yen (around US$602).
Prior to that, the figure has been made available exclusively at MoMA Design Store in New York starting August 03, 2021.
In anticipating the demand for the figure, MoMA Japan will be holding a lottery sales where only winners will be able to buy the product. More information regarding the sale can be found HERE [JP].
