There are gadget accessories and then there are gadget accessories that put a smile on your face. The Poptheatr is one such gadget accessory. Come on. I am sure the feature image already pique your interest and perhaps even invite an involuntary exclamation “what???” I know it sure put a smile on my face and yes, I can’t help but to exclaim, “what???” when I first saw it. Wacky concept aside, we have to admit that Poptheatr is not without its practicality.
I am sure everyone has, at one point in time, use their smartphone or tablet while laying down, and I am also sure that, at some point, we have experience the ouch moment when the device slips off the hands and land onto the face. Well, Poptheatr will put end to that, and also eliminates aching arms. In fact, not only does it save you the hassle of holding your phone above you as you lie down, it also engulf you in pitch black darkness so you’d feel like you are watching movie in a cinema.
Unless you have the super power that makes objects hover on their own, Poptheatr is your next best solution. But that’s provided you can put up with the quirkiness that comes along with it. The idea is simple enough. The accessory is collapsible and it deployed somewhat like a tent. It is made from a material that blocks out environmental light while staying breathable, so your head will remain cool and won’t suffocate when trying watch a movie.
Rounding up the on-the-go cinema experience is the included dual driver speaker for amplifying the audio and a Bluetooth remote for video control while the phone is high up above you (15 inches away from your face, to be precise). The product may look wacky, but from what we saw in the demo video, it sure does offer a cinema feel and that’s probably what it matters if you watching movie from a tiny display. You can find Poptheatr on Kickstarter where a pledge of $54 or more will secure yourself a unit, but only if the campaign meets its set funding goal.
