We just realized we have only featured PowerA’s product once and that was a decade ago. Recently, the company popped up on our radar because it has a super cool collab product to offer to loyal fans of Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA of America, Inc. has partnered with PowerA to launch a collection of Sonic the Hedgehog-themed third-party gaming accessories.
The products, which were released on August 08, 2023, include an Enhanced Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch – Sonic Boost (US$29.99), Protection Case for Nintendo Switch (for OLED mode, Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite) – Sonic Peel Out (US$19.99), and Advantage Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S – Sonic Style (US$39.99). A Trifold Game Card Holder for Nintendo Switch (US$9.99) will be available soon too.
The Nintendo Switch controller features two mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a detachable 10’ (3m) USB cable, and requires no batteries. It has some limitations, though. It can only be used while Switch is docked (obviously), and it does not support HD rumble, IR, motion controls, or amiibo NFC. Also, it will not work with games that require the use of Joy-Con.
As for the Protection Case, it features a sturdy outer shell, a rubberized handle for toting around, and durable dual zipper pulls. On the inside, it has a molded interior with felt lining, along with zippered mesh storage for miscellaneous stuff, and a built-in padded screen protector flap that has integrated storage for up to nine game cards.
Finally, the upcoming Trifold Game Card Holder for Nintendo Switch is a wallet-style storage for up to 24 Nintendo Switch game cards. It is super compact and fits in the zippered mesh pocket of PowerA’s full-size protection cases for Nintendo Switch. The holder further features a dual micro SD card insert that allows two micro SD cards to be stored securely in one of the game card slots. It has a hook-and-loop closure to ensure it stays closed when traveling, and it has an ID card window with an included ID card which you can personalize the game card holder.
