OK. Maybe having a TV-size gaming monitor is a little much but I sure don’t mind a gaming monitor that has the features of a TV. In fact, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Gaming Monitor, which is Samsung’s first OLED gaming monitor, one up the TV.
The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 lets you experience the best of gaming, entertainment, and lifestyle feature with one device. Not impressed? How about it operates as a complete entertainment hub with the ability to stream content through Samsung’s Smart Hub?
This means it is also a streaming media player that lets you stream content from popular streaming platforms including Prime Video, Netflix, Youtube, and other leading over-the-top service providers – all without the need to be hooked up to a PC or mobile device.
Entertainment does not end there. It further touts Samsung TV Plus which lets you enjoy free live content without the need for downloads or sign-ups, and Samsung Gaming Hub, Samsung’s all-in-one game streaming discovery platform, that lets you discover and play games from partners such as Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Google Stadia, Utomik, and Amazon Luna.
At this point, you should be torn between using this 34-inch display as your TV or computer/gaming monitor for your PC. The fact that it is also an integrated IoT hub does not make that decision-making any easier. That’s right. With Samsung Odyssey OLED G8, you can check all the IoT devices wireless connected to the monitor while the SmartThings app allows you to monitor IoT devices in the house.
I know right? It is absolutely bonkers. It surely blurs the line between a PC gaming monitor and a TV.
Clad in a sleek metal frame, it boasts an ultra-thin that is just 3.9 mm thin on the thinnest part. It requires no backlighting and yet it delivers true RGB and true black for maximum color accuracy and brightness without the need for a color filter.
Other highlights of this hybrid display include 175 Hz refresh rate, 0.1 ms response time, Quantum Dot Technology, 1800R curvature, QHD resolution (3,440 x 1,440), 100% color volume and DCI-99.3% color gamut, a million-to-one static contrast ratio, VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black Certified, AMD FreeSync Premium, CoreSync & Core Lighting+ for ambient lighting effect that matches the on-screen colors, and a built-in 5W stereo speaker.
The monitor offers a decent number of connectivity, including Micro HDMI (2.1), Mini DP (1.4), and USB-C ports.
The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 Gaming Monitor will launch globally sometime in Q4 2022. Pricing is yet to be announced.
