Oh, did we forget to mention the Smart #5? It officially rolled out last June, not long after the concept flexed its muscles at Auto China in April. But we’re really here to talk about its louder, faster sibling: the high-performance Smart #5 BRABUS. This marks the third BRABUS-badged Smart since its so-called rebirth—right after the #3 and the #1—and yes, it’s very much the overachiever of the group.
The #5 BRABUS doesn’t just sip electrons—it gulps them and then bolts from 0 to 62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds. With a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup pushing out 475 kW and a launch mode that sounds like it should require a helmet, this thing redefines what “compact SUV” means. It’s built on an 800-volt platform, supports 400 kW DC fast charging, and refuels from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Range? Up to 335 miles (539 km), assuming you’re not launching it at every red light.
Design-wise, it brings the full BRABUS drama: red brake calipers, 21-inch Monoblock Z wheels, and enough branding to make sure your neighbours know you didn’t just buy a Smart, you bought the Smart. Inside, there’s DINAMICA-trimmed microfibre seats, heated and ventilated thrones, 256-colour ambient lighting, and a panoramic roof to stare through while wondering how you ended up with an EV that simulates engine noises on purpose.
And then there’s the audio. A 20-speaker Sennheiser setup with 1,190 watts and Dolby Atmos means even your playlists get a performance upgrade.
