If there is one thing Sony really wants you to do this year, it is to stop pretending your TV speakers are good enough. It never is and never will be—even though some TV claimed to be.
Enter the new Sony BRAVIA Theatre home audio lineup, which is more than just a couple of soundbars; it is a starter kit for assembling your own living-room cinema.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 7

The BRAVIA Theater Bar 7 is positioned as the premium single-bar entry point, packing nine speaker units, including up-firing and side-firing drivers that widen the soundstage beyond what its footprint suggests. With Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, the bar creates phantom speakers throughout the room while automatically calibrating audio to your listening environment. Add optional subwoofers and rear speakers later, and it scales into a more complete surround system that supports IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X playback.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 5

The BRAVIA Theater Bar 5 arrives as a 3.1-channel system with a wireless subwoofer included, making it the easier entry point for anyone upgrading directly from TV audio. Sony’s S-Force PRO Front Surround, Vertical Surround Engine, and proprietary upmixer work together to simulate a broader three-dimensional sound field without requiring additional speakers right away. It is designed as the practical “plug-in-and-watch” option in the lineup.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Sub 9

The BRAVIA Theater Sub 9 sits at the top of the bass lineup, featuring dual opposing 200 mm drivers that reduce vibration and extend low-frequency performance. The configuration helps maintain clean output even at higher volume levels and is intended to pair with the Bar 7 or Bar 5 for a fuller cinematic foundation.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Sub 8

The BRAVIA Theater Sub 8 offers a more compact alternative with a single 200 mm driver, still designed to extend bass into lower registers while keeping the footprint manageable for typical living-room setups. Like the Sub 9, it integrates wirelessly with compatible BRAVIA Theater soundbars.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Sub 7
The BRAVIA Theater Sub 7 rounds out the trio as the slimmest wireless subwoofer in the new lineup. It is aimed at users who want added low-end presence without committing floor space to a larger enclosure, making it the easiest addition for smaller entertainment areas.
Sony BRAVIA Theater Rear 9

The BRAVIA Theater Rear 9 speakers complete the surround setup with up-firing drivers that expand overhead spatial effects and reinforce Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping environment. When paired with a compatible soundbar, they help create additional phantom speaker positions behind the listener for a more convincing wraparound sound field.
The whole system supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced playback, and pairs neatly with compatible BRAVIA TVs so you can control audio settings straight from the TV interface. There is also the BRAVIA Connect app if you prefer tapping your phone instead of hunting for another remote.
The idea here is really simple. Start with a soundbar. Add a subwoofer later. Throw in the rear speakers when you are ready. Eventually, pretend you planned a full home theater all along.
Sony calls this approach “Cinema is Coming Home.” Judging by how modular this lineup is, it might be arriving one speaker at a time. Or maybe not. I just have one question: will a particular model becomes out production by the time I have up enough for it?
