After letting Marvel have a part in the new Spider-Man franchise, it appears that Sony Pictures’ fate with superhero films is looking up. Everything seems to be smooth sailing after Marvel Studios’ involvement with Sony’s third reboot of the Spider-Man franchise.
Thereafter, Venom in the following year smashed the box office weekend taking with US$90.1 million, and then in 2019, the second Spidey movie grossed over US$1.1 billion worldwide, establishing it as the first Spider-Man movie to ever cross the billion-dollar mark.
With all this cash ringing in, Sony is encouraged and that brings us to the next franchise, the Morbius. For those who are unfamiliar, Morbius is yet another antihero which at one point, crossed paths with Spider-Man.
“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”
Sony Pictures’ Morbius will arrive in January 2022. Meanwhile here’s the official trailer shared by Sony Pictures earlier last week.
Not going to lie. It looks super promising. But can I just that I do sense a little Venom vibe in it?
