Fans of the good’ol Japanese Godzilla will appreciate this upcoming figure from Bandai’s Soul of Chogokin (literally means Soul of Super-alloy), the Soul of Chogokin GX-103 MFS-3 Type 3 Mechagodzilla. The Type 3 Mechagodzilla made its appearance in the 2002 film, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (ゴジラ×メカゴジラ). The film was released in Japan as Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.
In the movie, the Mechagodzilla was created based on the bones of Godzilla dug out from Tokyo Bay and it was developed to counter Godzilla and bears the official name of MFS-3, or Multi-purpose Fighting System-3. It was an unmanned reptilian robot of gigantic proportions.
Standing at 230 mm (about 9 inches) tall and 350 mm (roughly 14 inches) long, the Soul of Chogokin GX-103 MFS-3 Type 3 Mechagodzilla was developed by studying a huge amount of source materials with guidance from its mechanical designer Shinji Nishikawa to ensure a screen-accurate figure.
It is not just screen-accurate, it also boasts high-level of playability with a chest that opens to reveal a light-up element, and light-up eyes, along with a generous number of accessories that includes the backpack unit as seen in the film, a pedestal, and battle damage parts. The color of the chest will also change to recreate the firing of its ultimate weapon “Absolute Zero”.
The Soul of Chogokin GX-103 MFS-3 Type 3 Mechagodzilla is expected to be released in May 2023 for 35,200 yen (around US$253 according to the current going rate). So far we have yet to find any online stores outside of Japan taking pre-orders. If you did, do let us know.
