Star Wars Barbie Dolls by Mattel

I was skeptical how Barbie could ever be relevant in the modern world, but Mattel’s signature doll originally developed to empower little girls has proven that it can keep up with times. In addition to being inclusive, the iconic doll has assumed many roles, including David Bowie, Agent Mulder and Agent Scully, as the crew of U.S.S. Enterprise and more. Now, it has taken the role of key characters in Star Wars too.

Meet the Star Wars Barbie Dolls which, TBH, feels more like runaway stuff from the galaxy far, far away. And I mean it in a good way. Unlike the various previous incarnation, Barbie (or more correctly, Barbies) here is not quite cosplaying as Darth Vader, Princess Leia and R2-D2. It would be weird if they did (especially with the last one).

Instead, the three dolls feel like Barbie, Barbie dressed up in fashion pieces inspired by the aforementioned three characters. Though, Star Wars Darth Vader x Barbie Doll and Princess Leia Star Wars x Barbie Doll doesn’t quite feel as fashion-ish, but we unequivocally felt that the Star Wars R2D2 x Barbie Doll is definitely Barbie in an attire fit for strutting down the space catwalk.

But that does not make this Star Wars and Barbie crossover any less cool. If fact, they are must-haves for any Star Wars fan even if you are not much of a Barbie person. If you concur, you may want to consider picking up Star Wars Barbie Dolls as pre-orders from Mattel for $100 a pop.

Not going to lie. They are not exactly cheap. But damn, how can you say ‘no’ to Barbie masquerading as as iconic Star Wars characters, right? Official availability is expected to be in November.
