Electric skateboard is a norm today, but 99.9 percent of them requires the use of a remote, or an app for control. Now, lets take a step back and think about it: do we really need that (the remote)? Well, Germany company Stark Mobility (no relation to the fictional Stark Industries) certainly did not think so. Armed with this resolution in mind, the company set out to create StarkBoard, the world’s first electric skateboard that leverages intelligent weight and motion tracking to put controls in your hands, or lower torso, to be precise. In other words, you are the remote.

With StarkBoard, you will be able to skateboard around like you do naturally with traditional now-powered skateboards but with one less thing to do: kicking. All you just have to do is lean forward and off it goes, along with you on it, of course. And with a subtle title of your body, you can, like all other skateboard, change directions. Now, that’s the future! At this point, you must be thinking: what about safety? Well, Stark Mobility have you covered in that department too. Just step off the board and this electric mobility of the future will stop in an instant. As simple as that.

Driven by two custom made hub motors, StarkBoard enables speeds of up to 20 miles an hour (32 km/h) and tackle slopes of up to 15 percent incline. And when you do take on an incline surface, the aforementioned intelligent braking system will prevent it from rolling downhill and it can even bring you to a complete halt on a decline. Smart. Real smart. StarkBoard comes outfitted with a removable and hot swappable lithium cells – the same type of cells as used in Tesla vehicles – which provides up to 12 miles (19 kilometers) of range.

Finally, rounding up the package is a durable Canadian Maple ply, ABS plastic and forged steel construction, and finished with bright LEDs to for safe ride in low-light conditions. While there is no need for a remote or app to ride it, it does come with a companion app that lets you in on your travel data and should you so choose to, customize your riding experience.

StarkBoard is running a pre-sale campaign on Indiegogo where you can grab a unit at 50 percent of its retail price, at $499. Delivery is expected to fulfill sometime in February 2018. Take a look at the product pitch video, narrated by a Morgan Freeman soundalike.
