Well, it looks like Optimus Prime and Starscream won’t be the only bots chugging coal and blowing steam anymore. Joining them in the brass-and-cogs club are none other than Megatron and his pint-sized headache of an Autobot, Bumblebee. Pulled from IDW’s Transformers: Hearts of Steel comic miniseries, these two are rocking alternate 19th-century looks that feel equal parts “Industrial Revolution” and “Comic-Con cosplay if the theme was steampunk trains.”
The new Transformers Hearts of Steel Timelines Megatron and Timelines Bumblebee action figures are fully inspired by those comic designs. Megatron trades in his usual futuristic menace for something a little more grounded—quite literally—as he now converts into an infantry tank cannon. Standing at 5.5 inches (14 cm), he’s got articulated limbs and comes with his trusty arm cannon accessory, which, of course, you can slap on in both modes.
Meanwhile, Bumblebee goes full Thomas the Tank Engine but with attitude. At 4.7 inches (12 cm), the little guy converts from robot to steam train in 18 steps. To round things out, he comes with a hammer that looks like it was forged by a blacksmith who also happened to be a big fan of Saturday morning cartoons.
Both figures feature comic-accurate deco and enough articulation to let you recreate those “epic panel freeze-frame” poses on your shelf. The set also includes extra accessories and instructions for when you inevitably forget which way the tank turret flips or how Bumblebee’s smokestack folds in.
Transformers Hearts of Steel Timelines Megatron and Bumblebee are available now for US$59.99. A small price to pay if you’ve ever wanted to see Megatron look like he’s about to storm a 19th-century fortress while Bumblebee huffs coal like a Victorian train.
