Meet the Xiaomi YU7, the SUV that’s here to prove that Xiaomi isn’t just about budget phones, robot vacuums, and super-fast electric sedans.
Xiaomi already kicked things off with the sleek SU7 sedan, but now it’s bringing the thunder in SUV form. You may go like, wait, didn’t we hear of this one before? Well, you most certainly have. That was a preview in November 2024; Xiaomi has just made it official yesterday (China time).
Let’s start with the Max model, which is less “SUV” and more “land rocket.” This dual-motor, all-wheel drive monster pushes out 690 horses and tops out at 253 km/h. That’s not just quick for an SUV—that’s “accidentally time travel” levels of fast. Meanwhile, the clamshell aluminum hood covers a whopping 3.11 square meters, just in case you ever need to host a dinner party on your bonnet.
Inside, things get even more absurd. The YU7 [CH] packs a 1.1-meter-wide HyperVision Panoramic Display with Mini LED tech that makes your living room TV weep in shame. You also get zero-gravity seats wrapped in Nappa leather, so comfortable they may ruin all future chairs for you.
Powering it all is a 96.3 kWh battery offering a range of up to 835 km. That’s nearly long enough to escape your responsibilities—and definitely long enough to make your phone battery feel embarrassed.
The YU7 comes in three flavors: a single-motor RWD standard model, a dual-motor AWD Pro, and the full-fat Max for people who believe speed limits are just suggestions. Pricing is still a mystery, but we suspect it’ll cost more than a Xiaomi phone and less than your average mid-life crisis.
So yes, Xiaomi’s second EV is here, and it’s not pulling punches. If you thought the SU7 was bold, the YU7 just looked at it and said, “Hold my electrons.” OK. I have to say it. It looks nice but it does so like the caricature version of the SU7, and kind of feel like the designer was looking at the Macan (specifically the 2019’s model) when designing this. Just saying…
