If you thought Xiaomi’s debut EV, the SU7, was their grand splash into the automotive scene, think again. The tech titan-turned-car-maker is back with its second act: the Xiaomi YU7, a sporty electric SUV with enough specs to make tech enthusiasts and car lovers alike sit up and take notice.
Let’s start with the basics. The YU7 is no pint-sized city crawler; it stretches nearly five meters (4,999 mm) long, just under two meters (1,996 mm) wide, and stands at 1,600 mm tall. It rides on a generous 3,000 mm wheelbase and weighs in at a substantial 2,405 kg, but don’t let its heft fool you—this SUV has serious zip.
Thanks to a dual electric motor system cranking out a combined 691 horsepower, it can hit a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph). For those of us more concerned with range than speed, the YU7’s lithium-ion battery promises solid endurance, though Xiaomi hasn’t revealed exact figures yet.
Visually, the YU7 borrows heavily from its older sibling, the SU7, but with a sharper edge. It features hidden door handles, a rear spoiler, and bold five-spoke wheels (with optional aero-friendly covers). For a splash of pizzazz, the brake calipers come in bright yellow. The front retains the SU7’s brake ventilation ducts, blending aesthetics with function. Tire options range from 19 to 21 inches, depending on how flashy or practical you want to go.
Inside, Xiaomi has gone full minimalism with a floating center console and, notably, no physical buttons—everything is controlled digitally. While it screams “futuristic,” it also makes you wonder: how many accidental taps will it take to lower the windows instead of turning up the AC?
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun spilled the beans early, saying the YU7 won’t officially hit the streets until July 2025. Why the premature reveal? According to Lei, ditching the camo early will make road testing more efficient and allow for longer, more detailed evaluations. In other words, Xiaomi wants to make sure this car is road-ready before handing over the keys to eager customers.
The YU7 continues Xiaomi’s journey into the EV market, showcasing its flair for combining sleek design, high-tech features, and raw performance.
