Mona Lisa by legendary Italian artist/inventor Leonardo da Vinci has gotta be the most parodied masterpiece. Here’s another parody of the world’s most famous portrait but it is not a painting it is a collectible vinyl figure or vinyl bust to be exact.
This latest parody is a project by ZCWO and Stravelling Muzeum in collaboration with Fools Paradise. The ZCWO x Stravelling Muzeum Mona Lisa // Discovering Fools Paradise, as it is referred to, marries Fools’ creative style to “humanize” the iconic image of Mona Lisa by integrating a splicing mechanical feature that separates the Mona Lisa into 12 individual layers to reveal a cartoon version beneath.
The cartoon image of the Mona Lisa is based on ZCWO’s previous blind box work. The marriage of realistic sculpting of the Mona Lisa and cartoon character offers fun and yet surreal work of art. The vinyl bust is made from vinyl (duh) and PVC, and towers at an imposing 43.8 cm (17.2″) tall. It is no doubt an interesting twist on a classical painting.
I’d be lying if I were to say I am not sold. I am. In fact, I want one so bad but the asking price of US$380 is just too much for my wallet to bear.
