The unholy marriage of Godzilla and Evangelion resulted in a blasphemous yet strangely alluring figure. For fans who cannot get enough of this sacrilegious creature, X-Plus has followed up with an Evangelion Unit 02 “G” Awakening Mode featuring EVA Unit 01 merging with Gojira, the Q version of the original “G” awakening figure, and now this: Evangelion Unit-01 Burning “G” Awakening Form fixed pose figure.
This is for the second production of the Evangelion Unit-01 Burning “G” Awakening Form destined for shipping in October 2024. Like the first figure, this forbidden collaboration project answers the question: “What if we injected G-cells into an Evangelion?” to which we already know the result.
And now this fusion of the bio-mecha and the radioactive creature returns in Burning form. For folks who don’t know, Burning Godzilla is a new level of power Godzilla acquired in 1995 Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
This statue is a play at Burning Gojira and also the awakened EVA Unit 01. Except for the newly sculpted head, left arm—which now extended outward instead of dropping down like an aimlessly wandering zombie—and the addition of an Angel Halo, the Evangelion Unit-01 Burning “G” Awakening Form is obviously a repaint of the original figure—X-Plus said it themselves on the product page.
Everything about it is the same as the original vinyl figure—right down to the pose. But it is not a dealbreaker, IMHO, especially not if you haven’t bought the first. This version provides you the opportunity to secure the “G” awakening figure without paying for a ridiculous amount on eBay (and risk getting a high-grade knockoff).
The Evangelion Unit-01 Burning “G” Awakening Form features a color scheme inspired by the Evangelion Unit-01 Awakening Version which, together with the Burning Godzilla, is even more sinister and striking. Another highlight are transparent components on the left arm, dorsal fins, and the aforementioned Angel Halo which make the figure pop even more.
The figure measures a whopping 57 cm (22.4″) long and stands 40 cm (15.7″).
The Evangelion Unit-01 Burning “G” Awakening Form Second Production is available for pre-order from now until July 09, 2024, 23:00 Hours Japan Time from both Shonen Ric US. It has an asking price of 35,000 yen (approximately US$238).
