If you cannot afford the Ferrari 499P, odds are you cannot afford this ridiculously meticulous 1:4-scale replica of its engine either. I kid you not. At US$18,495, the 1:4 Scale Ferrari 499P V6 Engine and Gearbox from Amalgam Fine Model Cars costs about as much as a decent used car. The difference is that one gets you from point A to point B, while the other gets you a tiny Ferrari race car engine that does absolutely nothing.

And yet, I kind of want one. I really do because, you see, I have this unhealthy obsession with internal combustion engines.
Launched on the eve of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, this beautiful piece of miniature engineering is based on the powerplant of the 2023 Le Mans-winning Ferrari 499P and includes the gearbox. Yes, technically, that is the entire drivetrain.
The model measures just over 35 cm (13.8 inches) long and is built using original CAD designs, paint codes, and material specifications supplied by Ferrari. It comprises thousands of precisely engineered parts, including castings, photo-etchings, and CNC-machined metal components. Bringing it to life required more than 3,500 hours of development, followed by over 325 hours of assembly by Amalgam’s specialist artisans.
This particular replica recreates the drivetrain that powered the #51 and #50 Ferrari 499P hypercars to first and fifth place finishes, respectively, at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. Every hose, fitting, housing, and fastener has been reproduced in painstaking detail.
As a nod to the car from which it is derived, production is limited to just 499 examples worldwide.
The 1:4 Scale Ferrari 499P V6 Engine and Gearbox is available now from Amalgam for the aforementioned US$18,495. Surprisingly, it has not sold out. Then again, not everyone wakes up and decides to spend used-car money on an engine that cannot even power a lawn mower.
