Anyone who skateboards knows that skateboard deck is pretty hardly and makes quite a nice seat when not skateboarding, which is why it makes perfect sense to take comfy deck and turn them into seats that you can use at home. That’s exactly what Breda, The Netherlands-based outfit Baked/Roast, which is an anagram of the word ‘skateboard’, has created. So, no. Baked / Roast is not a bakery, nor is it a cafe. Naming aside, these lovely skateboard-inspired furniture are handmade and The Wood One and The Steel One are the company’s first products. The Wood One has the clear-coated 7-ply Canadian maple deck mounted onto a beechwood frame, complete with orange screws and bolts that matches the deck’s orange dyed layers.
The Steel One is similar to The Wood One, but has a steel chassis finished in traditional gun blue. It shares the same as The Wood One, but sports countersunk bolts to create a smooth surface. Seriously, beautiful stuff (else, it wouldn’t be here, would it?) We wouldn’t call them stools, because they can actually function as stools or as side tables as well. Just go with your mood. If you like to seat on it, go ahead, but if you prefer to place your magazines and newspaper on it, by all means do so. The choice is yours. All that matters is, you know they are just about the coolest furniture any skateboarders and non-skateboarders can have in their humble abode.
A skateboard-based speaker set is in the pipeline, but in the mean time, you can get your hands on the Handmade Skateboard Furniture via Baked / Roast website. But we will be honest with you; they are not cheap. The Wood One will run you back 175 euros (around US$200), while The Steel One costs 230 euros (roughly US$262). As a consolation, shipping is free and they ship globally.
