When we think racing timepieces, most people would probably associate them with brands like Ferrari and Tag Heuer, but as we all know, they are never affordable. But it is not like they are unattainable; you can always save on everything in your life just to grab a piece, or you can take a look at the Helgray Silverstone 60s Racing Chronograph Watch. The product name pretty much says it all, doesn’t it? The Silverstone 60s Racing Chronograph is a timepiece that brings together the best two worlds: the old world of charm of the 60s motorsports era and the power of modern watch mechanics. Unlike some chronographs offered by some branded marques, Helgray Silverstone has a minimalistic dial face which is the home to a pair of sub-dials that kind of reminds us of automobile instruments and a date window sits discreetly at 6 o’clock.
On the aesthetic front, its 40mm surgical-grade 316L stainless steel case sports a unique blend of brushed and polished surfaces, matched to either a 20mm leather or stainless steel strap and a slightly domed sapphire crystal that offers a nice curved reflection without much distortion or adding thickness to the mineral. It is one of the sleeker watches we have seen thus far and it is not just a looker. Under the hood, lies a competent hybrid movement offered by Seiko Time Module VK64 meca-quartz chronograph. The made in Japan hybrid movement combines quartz module for accurate time-keeping and a mechanical module for the chronograph function that provides you with the mechanical gratification.
A couple of other mentions include 5ATM (164′) water resistant and Swiss superluminova C3 treated hour indices and hands for easy legibility in lowlight conditions. Already drooling for one? The good news is, you can secure one by pre-ordering it on Kickstarter for $279 for an estimated delivery in June 2015. A word of advise thought: if you really, really want one, we suggest that you act fast because there are limited units left. At the time of this writing, we counted 30. Not a huge number, besides, the campaign will end in another 20 days time. So, the ball is in your court now.
