So many vehicles have been immortalized as LEGO sets. Whether or not all these LEGO sets based on real-life vehicles are worthy of the LEGO treatment is up for debate. Whatever it is, we are thrilled that one of the world’s most iconic vehicles has finally gotten its own LEGO sets. Yes. Sets because there is not one but two sets: one for adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) and one suitable kiddo.
The vehicle in question is none other than the iconic Vespa 125 scooter. While Brickfreak’s proposed LEGO Ideas 1978 Vespa did not make it, LEGO is putting out its own LEGO Vespa sets – just in time to celebrate Vespa’s 75th anniversary. Well, technically, Vespa is in the 76th year now but since the founding date was in April and so I guess it is within 75 years?
Anywho, the sets are the LEGO 10298 Vespa 125 and the LEGO 40517 Creator Vespa. Aimed at AFOLs, the former packs a pretty impressive for scooter 1,106 elements. It is presented in a pastel blue colorway, one of the first colors this Italian icon was made in, and a very rate LEGO color that fans will appreciate.
This icon from the 60s is faithfully recreated with LEGO bricks, featuring a boatload of authentic features, including a front-wheel mounted on one side, dual saddles, a functioning kickstand, working steering, and a removable engine cover that, when removed, reveals a brick-built engine.
The set further boasts a spare wheel, a buildable helmet, an accessories basket including a flower bouquet on the back, before finishing with the Piaggio logo, Vespa branding, and the requisite Italian license plate from the 1960s.
When completed, the model measures over 22 cm tall, 35 cm long, and 12 cm wide (8.5 x 13.5 x 4.5 inches).
The LEGO 40517 Creator Vespa, on the other hand, is for kiddos age 9 and up. The 40517 may have mere 118 pieces but man, its representation is spot on. It has all of Vespa’s distinctive details covered; from the handlebars to the seat to the iconic side bonnets.
When completed, the LEGO 40517 Creator Vespa is a cute 9 cm tall, 12 cm long, and 6 cm wide (3.5 x 4.5 x 2 inches) model.
The LEGO 10298 Vespa 125 and the LEGO 40517 Creator Vespa will sell for US$99.99 and US$9.99, respectively, when they become available starting on March 01, 2022.
