LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter by Steve Guinness

We have featured art created with a typewriter, an e-ink screen typewriter, a typewriter-style keyboard, but never the actual typewriter. And you know what? That hasn’t change with this typewriter because, what you are looking at, isn’t a real typewriter either.

This photo will give you a sense of the scale of the typewriter.

It’s a LEGO set. I know right? It is hard to believe what you see before you is NOT a real typewriter because, it looks so much like one.

Originally a LEGO Ideas submission by Steve Guinness in 2018, the Typewriter is now an official LEGO Ideas set.

Guinness’ submission has received quite some makeover by LEGO designers to become the LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter. The 2,097-piece set for grown ups features a moving cartridge, a functional brick-built platen roller, printed character on each key, ribbon carrier, a “functional” striker key (though it will not actually print anything), and a new fabric element, a black and red ink spool ribbon, complete with spools on either side.

The typewriter is not based on any specific model; it is, however, inspired by the typewriter used by LEGO Group’s founder, Ole Kirk Kristiansen.

Completing the package is a letter from Thomas Kirk Kristiansen in 43 languages – signed by the man himself – which you can feed into the paper bail to complete the display. Now, that is dope!
