In a move that screams “your childhood but make it fashion,” the Evangelion franchise has launched its official apparel brand, EVANGELION:95, debuting on January 24, 2025, just in time to remind us that we’re all older than the original anime. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion, this new brand takes us back to the glory days of ’90s fashion, i.e. the grunge and vintage aesthetics.

The collection doesn’t just slap EVA Unit-01 onto a hoodie and call it a day (well, kind of). Instead, it draws inspiration from the golden era of Japanese domestic fashion brands and the mid-’90s obsession with American casual wear, Harajuku street style, and that borderline chaotic mix of grunge and oversized everything. Think scene cuts, logos, and character art merged with “premium” designs and techniques. Yes, it’s expensive, but hey, if you’re going to ponder life’s meaning, you might as well do it in a 41,800 yen (268 USD!) cardigan.
The debut lineup, designed by Tomohiro Kato of Radio EVA fame, includes t-shirts for 19,800 yen (127 USD), a parka for 29,700 yen (190 USD), and even socks at a modest 4,400 yen (28 USD). Sadly, the latter is possibly the only thing I can afford with my miserable income. Ugh. Anyhoo, for anyone who has the dough to drop, they are there for you to grab.
You’ll find these pieces at stores like Shibuya PARCO’s Radio EVA Store or the appropriately dramatic-sounding International Gallery BEAMS. For global fans, some Korean boutiques have got you covered.
EVANGELION:95 [JP] isn’t just clothes; it’s a statement (duh!): Why run from your problems when you can flex on them in designer mech-core? As always, get in the cardigan, Shinji.
