Remember the new kind of suitcase that can be collapsed to the thickness of a book for easy storage? Well, here’s another but this time, it is from Japan’s ladder maker, Pika Corporation, and it is not just any old suitcase. It can be used as a toolbox and it’s an officially licensed product of Evangelion’s work brand A.T. Field which already includes a bunch of stuff, including a power tool, an air-con vest, and more.
The Evangelion-branded A.T. Field Tool Case is designed with the philosophy of form with functionality. It is made from robust polycarbonate with ribs that further boost its durability, so it should be able to survive rough handling by baggage handlers.
As mentioned, it is not only a suitcase for globetrotting; it is also suitable for work tools such as power tools and whatnot. TBH, it is a bizarre proposition. While any bag could be a tool bag. A suitcase is the last thing we expect to be advertised as such. Plus, it would look weird having a suitcase in tow to your next plumbing repair job.
The Officially Licensed Evangelion A.T. Field Tool Case is billed as the world’s thinnest carry case that measures 490 mm x 560 mm x 65 mm (19 x 22 x 2.6 inches) when folded down. When unfolded, it measures 370 mm x 560 mm x 220 mm (14.6 x 22 x 8.7 inches) and offers 35 liters of storage.
Depending on the airlines, this size could be allowed as a carry-on. Hopefully, it is because you probably do not want any rough handling on this 39,600 yen (about US$286) suitcase. Unless you don’t mind a “battle damaged” version. But be warned though. It is worth noting that the suitcase is quite hefty, weighing in at 3.9 kilograms (8.6 pounds), when empty.
Other features include a zipper polyester interior that is both water repellent and stain resistant, 360° rotating silent casters, a telescopic trolley handle, a side carry handle, a top carry handle, internal mesh pockets, and a combination lock with TSA lock.
Officially Licensed Evangelion A.T. Field Tool Case/Suitcase is offered in three colors: Purple, Red, and Yellow, representing EVA Unit-01, Unit-02, and Unit-00. Each case is decorated with a NERV logo, a corresponding number label, handles in the EVA unit’s accent colors, and on the inside, the inner liner is also in the accent color of the respective EVA machine.
The Officially Licensed Evangelion A.T. Field Tool Case/Suitcase was officially launched on August 8. It is now available from Rakuten Ichiba, Yahoo! Shopping, as well as both on and offline Evangelion Store.
