Think you’ve seen it all in the world of exotic fast food? Well, have you ever imagined a pizza with a whole deep-fried bullfrog staring back at you? That’s exactly what Pizza Hut China has cooked up with its Goblin Pizza—a special creation born out of a collaboration with the multiplayer action RPG, Dungeon Fighter Online.
This wild concoction starts with a mala-flavored base and, of course, the pièce de résistance: a whole bullfrog. Adding to the surreal aesthetic are two halved eggs, each topped with sliced olives and drizzled with ketchup to resemble bloodshot eyes. If the frog didn’t make you pause, those egg “eyes” might. Oh, and just to make sure you don’t miss the “goblin” vibes, a liberal sprinkle of coriander ties it all together.
Now, before you go calling this dish too far out there, eating frogs—bullfrogs included—isn’t unheard of in parts of Africa and Asia, where they’re a common delicacy. Frog leg porridge, for instance, is a familiar sight in many Asian cuisines. But a frog on a pizza? That’s a new level of adventurous.
The Goblin Pizza launched on November 18 in China [CH] and costs 171 yuan (about 24 USD) as part of a set meal. While the promo pics might make it look like something you’d hesitate to eat but still want to Instagram, some diners were less than impressed with its real-world presentation.
Thankfully, not everything in this collaboration leans into the bizarre. The partnership also includes Dungeon Fighter Online-themed merchandise featuring the character Seria Kirmin, with items like backpacks, water bottles, and waist bags. So, even if the pizza isn’t your thing, you can always grab some cool gear and leave the frog for braver diners.
