Shalong “Mecha Dragon” Electric Vehicle

There have been product designs inspired by the geometric-shaped Cybertruck, but no automakers are keen on pursuing the geometric design language. Well, that is until now. Tesla Cybertruck won’t be the only straight edge, angular vehicle in the market in the near future because there’s the Shalong “Mecha Dragon” EV.

Shalong “Mecha Dragon” Electric Vehicle

Shalong is a new premium electric vehicle brand of China’s Great Wall Motors. Ji Jia Long which loosely translates to “Mecha Dragon” is Shalong’s first product and mind you, this ain’t a concept. It is a real car destined for production with a yet-to-be-announced availability. However, we do know that it will cost 488,800 yuan (about US$76,601) and it will be limited to just 101 units.

As you can see, the EV adopted a rather square, straight angular design that makes it look more like a concept car you may find in a Hot Wheels collection. It is futuristic, but the look is not for everyone.

TBH, I can’t love the look and yet, I can’t stop looking at it. I guess it has its appeal. Maybe? Come to think of it, it does have hints of Cadillac’s various concepts, doesn’t it?

The EV is powered by permanent magnet synchronous motors, front and back, and boasts an intelligent four-wheel drive. All told, the electric motors produce 405 kW (about 543 HP) and put out 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque which enables it to wipe the century sprint in just 3.7 seconds.

The battery system affords it over 800 kilometers (497 miles) of range. The battery supports fast charging, offering 401 kilometers (249 miles) of range with just 10 minutes of charging, or 545 kilometers (339 miles) with 15 minutes of charging.

The “Mecha Dragon” stakes claim as the first vehicle to be equipped with 4 LiDAR sensors. But that’s not it. In fact, this EV is loaded with no less than 38 smart sensing components which include the said LiDAR sensors, 12 ultrasonic radars, 5-millimeter wave radars, an independent high-precision positioning unit, 7 8 megapixel UHD cameras, 4 surround-view cameras, and more.
