This Avant-Garde Desk Has a Built-in Natural Amplification Sound Dock for Smartphone

we won’t start a debate on how uncluttered is an uncluttered a desk should be, but if you love a bit of music while you are at your desk, the Sound Table and Seat by South Korea-based industrial designer Jina U is one awesome idea that would allow you to enjoy your favorite tunes from your smartphone while not robbing you of the precious desktop real estate. how? because among the expanse of acacia desktop hides a recessed smartphone dock that is actually a sound dock to a natural amplification speaker. presumably designed with iPhone in mind, the iPhone audio is directed through a horn under the desktop and exits the front of the desk, thereby amplifying the sound. and if we were to judge how loud the amplified sound would be by the size of the horn, then we would think the amplification could be quite substantial. Gramohorn II 3D Printed Acoustic Speaker

Android sound docks are few and far between, much less one that rides on natural amplification, which we have seen loads of them designed for iOS devices and there is good reason for this ‘phenomena’. Android handsets come in a myriad of shape and sizes, and they refreshes as quickly as you could say Kit Kat and those are good reasons for the lack of sound dock for them. however, things are set to change with the proliferation of 3D printing which allows designers and manufacturers to turn out of products without costly molds. the Gramohorn II 3D Printed Acoustic Speaker for HTC One you see here is one such example. we shan’t dwell into the mandate or theory behind the birth of this set of beautiful analog horns, instead dive straight into this Justin Wolter designed product. like its powered counterpart, power-free iPhone speakers are in abundance, which inevitably makes us look past many of them as there are being introduced. however, the Change the Record iPhone Speaker managed to stop us in our track with its rather unconventional design. it is a power-free iPhone speaker that is formed from actual 12-inch vinyl record. created by London-based product designer Paul Cocksedge, this repurposed vinyl was put through a heating and moulding process, which result in a beautiful horn-shaped speaker while still maintaining those original vinyl groove lines, which adds to its beauty.
