Yup. Apparently, the much anticipated world’s first mech robot battle has happened. It was conducted in private, without spectators, due to safety concerns, at an abandoned steel warehouse in Japan. When the challenged was issued by the American’s MegaBots team, the Japanese’s Kurata built by Suidobashi Heavy Industry has all but one condition: the battle will be strictly a melee battle. That’s right. No projectile firing weapons. It is just the good’ol hand-to-hand robot fight. The U.S. team accepted the condition, but their Mk.II at that time wasn’t rigged for an all-out brawl and so, the team set out to build the third generation Mk MegaBot, the Mk.III Eagle Prime, which the team took to Kickstarter to pull in funds for the build. After a two-year delay, the world’s very first mech battle is finally happening. The original plan for a showdown between U.S. MegaBots and Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industry big-ass mech, Kuratas in 2015 had reportedly fell through due to “venue problems.” Two years on, it looks like the duel is going to happen, but this time, the location will not be disclosed to avoid any chance of the event being soured again, or so we read. For the uninitiated, Kuratas is the first MechWarrior-like robotic suit designed and built by Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industry. Behold! The age of Robotech is upon us and the epic battle between manned giant mechanical robots may happen as soon as in a year’s time. How so? Because now the world has not only one, but two functional Mechwarrior crossed Gundam crossed Pacific Rim big-ass robots. The first, as you may have heard, is the Kuratas by Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industry that was reportedly sold for a million bucks and now, there’s the MegaBot Mark II by MegaBots of the United States of America. Billed as “America’s first fully-functional giant piloted robot,” the MegaBot Mark II has an uncanny likeness to the manned mechanical suit of the game Mechwarrior. If you recall, some years ago we did featured a MechWarrior-like suit made by Japanese company Suidobashi Heavy Industry. Well, we have good and bad news for you. First, the good news: it was apparently on sale on Amazon Japan and the bad news, it is already listed as “currently out of stock”. Seriously, we can be sure if it is a real deal. It says on the sale page that it was peddled by Aqueduct Heavy Industries, but the fact that it is listed as out of stock, could mean someone was quick to grab it, or it was pulled from the listing. Anyhow, it was there. Even if it was available, you will have to part with a million Japanese money for it and on top of that, you will need to have the knack with putting together stuff because this Mech here comes as a starter kit. generally, we are fascinated by robotic developments and even more thrilled if it can be bought and further hacked to whatever we desire but we can’t say the same for the Phantom X AX Hexapod. while we are excited by it being a robot, its freakish agility and realism that somehow betters its living counterpart, kind of creeps us out. this giant size robotic spider scuttles like a real flesh and blood arachnids (probably much faster) and its creepiest capability, if it even can be considered as a ‘capability’, is that it will still remain the fast plastic-metal creepy crawly even when you flip it over. not content with just virtual mech machines in a game of MechWarrior? i knew you wouldn’t cos’ we aren’t too. since the beginning of time, many dudes who grew up watching Japanese animations such as Robotech or played MechWarrior have dreamt of piloting robots or Mechs (it just a more high-tech way of saying pilot-able robot), as they are more commonly known as – a dream which may seems a little far fetched, until now or so it seem. though we have to qualify that we detect a whiff of fish here but the idea by Japanese firm, Suidobashi Continue reading KURATAS

a champion boxer often has to face with routine cardio exercises and having to answer dumb questions from the media, and that’s not including the inevitable pain that you have to endure while you scuffle your way to the championship title. those are not the worst bits cos’ as a boxer, you run the risk of suffering from concussion as a result of a blow (or two) on your head. the very thought of a 100-lbs punch landing on our temple sends shudder down our bones but not if you can do your favorite bout with your best pal, each in your very own safety cage cockpit. meet the Bionic Bopper Cars: the awesome robots that you and your friend can sit in and send chin-lifting uppercuts without suffering from any form of injury. it works like a bumper car, except that it has pneumatic-powered tire-tread-fisted arms that are capable of sending punches at each other’s head…er, i meant robot’s head, and a front-mounted display on each robot’s mid-section display the successful scoring punches. you don’t even need a referee for this kind of head smacking fun. Luna may not be the robot that will sprint back home to get an inhaler for his asthmatic master but it is one step closer to owning a personal robot. developed by SchultzeWORKS for RoboDynamics, Luna is mobile in multiple directions and has special ‘hands’ that can be positioned for various activities including the mandatory tray holding position and holding a leash to walk your dog. for the latter, i certainly hope the lower part of Luna is pee-proof cos’ the dog may just pee on her to take ownership.
