Chasing thin bezels was once a thing with smartphones. It still is, but smartphone makers have simply stopped publicizing it. Bezels on modern smartphones are now of an acceptable thickness—i.e., they are no longer a jab in the eye—so users are paying less attention to them. Any incremental reduction in size—unless it is totally not there—makes it less of a selling point.
Well, making it “not there” is exactly what TECNO is doing. This “new power” among smartphone makers has no desire to accept the status quo when it comes to bezels. It has just teased the Next-Gen Bezelless Concept Phone, which it will bring to IFA 2026 (September 4–8, 2026, at Messe Berlin, Germany).
The Next-Gen Bezelless Concept Phone is TECNO picking up where everybody else left off—restarting a pursuit that some brands have given up on. I take this as official confirmation that it is chasing the bezelless dream after making super-thin phones the norm, as opposed to something reserved for just one model.
The device claims to have “a true 0 mm screen bezel,” which technically requires no mention of a bezel since it does not have one. In the teaser video, however, you can kind of see a very thin black border bleeding out from the phone’s frame. That is all we know for now.
In any case, this concept phone is not the first to claim to be bezel-free. There was the Maze Alpha, the US$200 Doogee Mix, the Nubia Z11, and more—all of which were phones from before 2020.
