If you haven’t already heard, there is going to be a Super Mario Bros. movie. Thankfully, it isn’t live-action (phew!). It will be disastrous if it was. It is an animated film based on the world of the hugely popular and iconic video game on Nintendo.
There is not much of a synopsis to work with but it is based on the video and so… anywho, the movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Minions: The Rise of Gru).
Mario is voiced by Christ Pratt and Jack Black is the voice of the biggest baddie in the Mario universe, Bowser. The film also stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Illumination’s founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto serve as producers.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a Universal Pictures film that is scheduled to hit theaters on April 07, 2023.
