Transformers Generations Comic Book Shockwave And Grimlock Figures

Do you know what an anniversary for toys means? It means the perfect opportunity to evoke nostalgia in fans. Well, evoking nostalgia is exactly what Hasbro is doing to mark the 40 years of Transformers. Hasbro has unveiled through Comicbook.com two new Transformers figures that pay homage to the original comic book series produced by Marvel from 1984 and 1991.

The two new Transformers toys are straight from pages of the Marvel comic era. OK. Technically, they are not new toys. Both toys are based on existing molds from the recent toy line but given the comic colors, completed with some comic shading deco.

The recent mold for Grimlock sure has no problem fitting in with its comic appearance, be it bot mode or dino mode. However, we cannot say the same for Shockwave. Shockwave’s bot mode is spot on but because it is a remold of recent mold, it does not convert into the Cybetronian laser gun that we all know and love. Instead, its alternate mode is a Cybertronian spaceship thingy.

But I don’t believe it will be a deal breaker for fans because both figures will come in collectible packaging which features the 40th anniversary branding along with the iconic cover art from Transformers #5 Shockwave “Are All Dead” and Transformers #8 “And Now The Dinobots!” for Shockwave and Grimlock, respectively. The packaging alone is collector’s worthy, IMHO.

But it does not stop there – obviously. Inside, the comic-style deco figures are accompanied by plentiful accessories. Unfortunately, they do not appear to come with a reprint of the original comic books. It would be nice if they did. Just saying…
