We have seen our fair share of boomboxes, but to be honest, most of them are pretty run-of-the-bill as far as looks are concerned. Though we did witness a few that managed to set our hearts fluttering, such as Artpentry Gentleman’s Boombox and to some extend, the DemerBox – both which are repurposed from carriers. Now, we can add another one: Vintage Suitcase Speaker ‘Thumper’ Boombox by Curious Provision to our list of speakers we adore. Why? Because it is a freaking vintage suitcase, that’s why. And that alone is enough to wow us and we are confident, it will wow our guests and makes an excellent conversational piece too.
Perhaps, The Gansevoort Hotel in NYC is on the same page, as the destination luxury hotel has chosen the Santa Monica-based startup’s custom-built “Mighty” Thumpers for each of its 186 rooms. A look at one of the room photo, it is easy to see why; the Thumpers’ suitcase styling is a natural complement to the hotel’s travel-centric design. Vintage Suitcase Speaker ‘Thumper’ Boomboxes are part of the company’s 2016 Summer Line which are handcrafted right in Santa Monica using real, vintage suitcases and packs state-of-the-art audio components.
It took the outfit three months to perfect this new series that promised to be louder and deliver audio at higher-fidelity, along with super stylish aesthetic. The Vintage Suitcase Speaker ‘Thumper’ Boomboxes come in three sizes: Mighty, Maestro, and Virtuoso, with the Mighty being the smallest and the Virtuoso, the largest of the three sizes, and in a variety of colors and styles. Common features include 12-hour playback, auxiliary connections, as well as Bluetooth connectivity.
CEO and founder Russell Fry described the Thumpers as “steampunk meets hip hop’, adding that they look like they are from “some alternate timeline that never happened.” Well, we couldn’t agree more. One look and we are totally absorbed by Thumpers. Vintage Suitcase Speaker ‘Thumper’ Boomboxes are available from Curious Provisions’ web store, starting at $435 and can run up to as much as $2,500 for the musician-centric Virtuoso ‘King’ model.
