If you haven’t already heard, there is a new Godzilla movie. No, not the Godzilla Minus One. It is a sequel to 2021’s blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong. This time, though, the radioactive beast ain’t going slug it out with the giant ape. Well, they kind of did not in the first place anyways.
As noted from the film title, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, these two iconic gigantic beasts have gone from slugging it out to collaboration and then to collaboration again:
“The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
So, yeah. It is a whole new world, folks (not Aladdin kind of whole new world, though). It feels more like a giant ape and a radioactive reptile going up against the oversized Planet of the Apes if you know what I mean. But this time, humans are the onlookers (and clamoring for the unlikely partnership to save them?).
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will hit the theaters on April 12, 2024. Here’s the official trailer:
