Yamaha Motor envisioned a man and machine becoming one with a motorcycle called MOTOROiD in 2017. You’d think it was a concept that was drawn up and forgotten. Well, it is not. The development has not stopped and at the recent Japan Mobility Show, the Japanese motorcycle maker brought along an updated version simply called MOTOROiD2.
MOTOROiD answers the question of how human-machine interfaces evolve in the future. This groundbreaking prototype integrates mobility with intelligent technology to explore that very question. Yamaha Motor envisioned creating a deeper synergy between rider and machine, akin to a partnership resonating harmoniously. Since introducing the MOTOROiD in 2017, the company has persistently pursued advancements in technology and design, building upon this fundamental concept.
Expanding on the original MOTOROiD, MOTOROiD2 embodies not just personal mobility but also an entity capable of recognizing its owner, rising from its stand, and moving alongside the rider. Moreover, it presents an uncannily lifelike experience when someone rides it, resembling more of a lifelong companion than just a vehicle.
Enhancements to the Active Mass Center Control System (AMCES) for attitude sensing and self-balancing, alongside an image recognition AI system that detects and responds to the owner’s facial expressions and gestures, have undergone significant refinement.
The MOTOROiD2 is super high-tech. Not only can it self-balance but it can also park itself and unfold the kickstand once in position. Oh, the aforementioned AI recognition system? Well, it can recognize the owner from afar and prep itself for the ride. Now, that is the future!
Furthermore, MOTOROiD2 showcases an innovative Leaf structure, setting it apart from conventional motorcycles and enabling a chassis designed to deliver lifelike and complementary responses to the rider. The MOTOROiD2 feels a lot organic if you know what I mean.
