remember Cubelets, the modular robotic construction kit that lets you custom your ‘robot’? the B-Squares here is conceptually similar, except this isn’t a robot but a modular solar powered system that allows you to create anything from iPhone dock to LED light to Arduino. as Jordan puts it, “B-Squares is a 3D modular electronics system with an emphasis on (but not limited to) solar power and expandable energy storage.”
each corner of the square features a magnetic contact that allows individual square to snap together in a jiffy without the hassle of wires or cables. these magnetic contacts also double as electrical contact, allowing electric power to flow between the squares. by now you should have some idea of what the B-Squares are. if not, hit the jump and check out a short intro video. i would say the heart of the B-Squares is the 0.25-watt solar square which is the ‘energy source’ for whatever you want to connect to it.
the inventor of the B-Square, Jordan McRae is seeking for support via Kickstarter to make this project a reality. for a minimum pledge of $50 or more, you will get the B-Squares ‘B-GINNER’s KIT’ that includes three squares, namely the Solar Square, the Battery Square as well as the LED Square. adding $25 to the aforementioned pledge amount and you will get your yourself an iPhone Square. check out McRae’s Kickstarter page for more information.
