Custom LEGO Toyota AE86 on LEGO Ideas

If you are into Japanese imports, chances are, you will know the animated series Initial D. And if you are a fan (of Initial D), I bet you will appreciate this LEGO Ideas submission, LEGO MOC Toyota AE86, by LEGO Ideas member kosenLEGOmaker. For those who do not know, the entire series revolves around downhill drifting, an underground street racing phenomenon in Japan, and the main character is Takumi Fujiwara who perfected his downhill drifting by delivering delicate home-made tofu in his father’s Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno GT Apex.

So, yeah, kosenLEGOmaker’s LEGO MOC Toyota AE86 is based on that car, sporting the familiar two-tone paint job, albeit without the trademark words that say “Fujiwara Homemade Tofu Store” in Japanese. This brilliant MOC is of 1:13 scale and boasts quite a number of features, including opening doors and hood (and opening trunk in the coupe model), folding side mirrors, folding rear seats (split-fold seats!), flip headlights (in Trueno mode), spare tire under a removable trunk floor mat, and a detailed engine under the hood.

There are a lot of reasons why this LEGO Ideas should be made. First and foremost, it is one of the few LEGO Ideas submissions that actually boasts an alternate build. kosenLEGOmaker designed this model in such a way that you will be able to switch between the AE86 Sprinter Trueno GT Apex and the AE85 coupe, and doing so with a complete engine change from 1,587 cc 4A-GE to the 1,452 cc 3A-U. Now, that, my friends, is super duper dope!
