One of the key characters from the original Star Wars trilogy has finally gotten its due collectible. We are, of course, talking about Luke Skywalker. Folks, this is the Hot Toys Star Wars: The Empire Strike Back Luke Skywalker (Bespin) 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure.
The figure is based on Skywalker in what would be the most pivotal part of the trilogy: training as a Jedi under Master Yoda, running up to the events in Cloud City that saw Luke losing his hand to Vader, as seen in the Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980, 20th Century Fox).
In addition to the obvious, i.e. a newly painted head sculpt in the likeness of young Mark Hamill, featuring separate rolling eyeballs and two styles of interchangeable hair sculptures (that magnetically attach to the head), the other highlight of this figure would be the carbon-freezing chamber-theme base that lets you play out the Bespin scene.
But true fans will want to pick up the Deluxe Version cos’ it further includes a Dagobah-themed base and the vision of Luke seeing himself as Darth Vader. The latter is presented in a broken Darth Vader helmet with Luke’s face instead of Anakin’s.
You see why this is a must-have for fans? This is a significant piece, an essential moment of the original storytelling.
Other notables include a finely tailored outfit, an LED light-up lightsaber, an interchangeable lightsaber blade that emulates the weapon in motion (no sound though!), a blaster, over 30 points of articulation, and a bunch of replacement hands.
The Hot Toys Star Wars: The Empire Strike Back Luke Skywalker (Bespin) 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure is set to arrive sometime in Q3-Q4 2023. In the meantime, eager fans can pre-order the Hot Toys Luke Skywalker 1/6th collectible figure from major toy retailers for around US$345 for the Deluxe Version, or about US$285 for the standard edition.
