We do not want to question if the new electric DeLorean, the Alpha5, will be as iconic as the DMC-12. It will probably not. The DMC-12 is a legend now because it was an expensive failure that somehow became one of the icons of the 80s. I guess you could attribute the latter to Back to the Future, which it was a star in its own right.
It is safe to say it wouldn’t be as iconic if weren’t for the sci-fi trilogy. However, that does not take away the fact the new era of DeLorean is a beautiful car, and to commemorate this historic comeback, Hot Wheels has reimagined the DMC-12 and Alpha5 in 1:64 scale diecast format.
The Hot Wheels x DeLorean DMC-12 & Alpha5 Collector Set, as it is called, presents the two cars separated by 40 years, in incredible detail and in very collectible packaging.
The 1:64 1981 DMC-12 features zinc plated ZAMAC body, has a full-metal base, clear windows, and rolls on Real Riders racing wheels with silver VUM hubs.
The 2022 Alpha5 EV, on the other hand, has a ZAMAC body in red, a full-metal based, tinted windows, and rides on Real Riders 10-spoke wheels and grey hubs.
If the product images were to be believed, Hot Wheels has done an incredible job in recreating both rides.
