Obsessed with mobile photography? And why wouldn’t you, given the imaging prowess and the convenience of today’s smartphones has to offer. The days of cumbersome rig is almost over. Well almost because your smartphone isn’t exactly as ergonomic as an actual camera and it is obviously not tripod friendly, and you can’t get ‘professional’ with it due to the lack of mounts for pro accessories like microphone, additional lighting and whatnot. This is where the redesigned Glif tripod mount for smartphones comes into play. The new Glif, also by Studio Neat, addressed the aforementioned struggles of aspiring mobile photographers.
Taking its original Glif adjustable tripod mount and injecting it with doses of steroid, the new Glif now boasts an innovative quick release mechanism that leverages on the magic of vise to securely hold your phone, of any size – if we might add, with ease of loading and unloading. With the new Glif, your struggle with spring loaded mechanism and on the other spectrum, of a screw-type hold is officially over. The neat gear and lever locking mechanism is just half of the story.
The new Glif also touts multiple tripod mounts – three to be exact, so that it happily supports both landscape and portrait orientations and also make it ‘scalable’, allowing you to add external light/flash and microphone into the mix. When combined with the optional milled solid cherry hardwood (which looks super awesome, btw) and a wrist strap composing of durable paracord and leather, you got yourself a pro-like rig that is as functional as it is stylish. That said, it is not a surprise that Studio Neat’s campaign on Kickstarter has received much love.
At the time of this writing, the new Glif has more than 3,000 backers and nearly $150K funded, and it has 22 more days to go. If the redesigned Glif tripod mount for smartphones is a want for you, then you may want to consider pre-ordering it for $25, or thrown in another $25 for the complete set that includes the said handle and wrist strap.
