Besides Xiaomi, OnePlus is likely the other handset maker with the most collab phones. The latest to join OnePlus’ growing portfolio of collabs is this: the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. IMHO, this isn’t just any collab. It might be a carefully orchestrated one. Why? Because, Warp Charge 30. The slogan for this OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is “salute to speed” and while OnePlus can’t do much to the innards to make the 6T go fast like a McLaren, it has given the device the company’s new 30 watts charger that promised to make 0-50 percent capacity in 20 minutes.
Apart from the chipset that directly to influence speed, which it can’t change (cos’ it’d be a very costly endeavor), it does however offers the McLaren Edition with 10 GB of RAM – 2 GB over the top end configuration of the original 6T, along with the requisite sports car go-fast look, by the way of a glossy carbon fiber pattern back that only reveal itself under direct light. That’s not all; the device also sports McLaren’s signature Papaya Orange accent along the side and bottom edges that are only visible at certain angles and the McLaren branding is not merely another badge; it is one that “moves and shifts in different lighting and angles.”
We love the subtle hints of the supercar maker. It makes this collab device feels minimal and yet complicate. In other words, it is classy AF. Like I said, this is not just any collab device. This is some serious collab that goes beyond cosmetic upgrade. Even the charging cable’s thick braided cable is in McLaren’s iconic orange hue. Now, that right there is a sweet touch. It has more, actually. The device will have custom software experience like exclusive animations and themes, and it will come with a McLaren-themed orange/carbon fiber pattern packaging that packs the device, along with a McLaren booklet, the Warp Charge 30 charger and a special commemorative plaque.
Beyond what we have highlighted though, the rest if the device is pretty much the OnePlus 6T you have already known and this means, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display, UFS 2.1 2-LANE storage (in this case, 256 GB comes standard), LTE/LTE-A radios, 16 + 20 MP f1.7 dual cameras, 16 MP f2.0 selfie camera, et cetera, et cetera.
OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is expected to go on sale starting December 13 in both Western Europe and North America for $699 (£649/€699). After which, sales in India, China and the Nordics will follow. Feast your eyes with the official unboxing video embedded below.
