Playmobil: The Movie Porsche Mission E

There are two things you need to know today. There’s going to be a Playmobil movie and in it, secret agent Rex Dasher drives a white Porsche Mission E – the German automaker’s concept car leading to the first all-electric Porsche, the Taycan. You heard that right. There’s going to be a Playmobil movie. Like, if LEGO can turn its toys into movie stars, why not Playmobil also, right?

Playmobil: The Movie Porsche Mission E

Anyways, the film, simply called, Playmobil: The Movie is a film project of Porsche and German toy maker Brandstātter Group’s Playmobil – LEGO’s key competitor for as many years as I can remember. The collaboration is a natural step forward for the two German companies as Porsche was Playmobil’s first licensed product which started as far back as 2014. So, yeah, Porsche Mission E is going to be a star.

Here the official words on what the movie is about:

“In PLAYMOBIL: THE MOVIE, a girl called Marla has to bring home her younger brother Charlie after he disappears into an animated Playmobil universe. On her journey through new worlds, Marla encounters very different companions: a food truck owner, a robot, a fairy and Rex Dasher. The intrepid and charming secret agent drives a Porsche Mission E, an electric sports car that has a number of remarkable functions. Together they overcome great challenges and recognize that they can succeed in everything if they believe in themselves. The director is Lino DiSalvo, who is also known for blockbusters such as Frozen.”

Sounds like a kid’s flick of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle meets The LEGO Movie meets (a less serious) James Bond, doesn’t it? Premiere of the movie will happen in Munich, Germany, on August 4, followed by a country wide release on August 29. Playmobil: The Movie will open in U.S. theaters on August 30, 2019.

In between, Porsche Museum will screen the movie at 11AM and 3PM on August 10 and 11 as part of the Porsche4Kids summer holiday program. In addition, mascots Rex Dasher and Tom Targa will be on site to meet the kids and sign off some autographs. In the meantime, have a look at the official trailer after the post. Oh before that, there’s a humorous clip introducing Rex Dasher to the Mission E.
