There is a record-breaking 57 LEGO Ideas submissions that have reached 10,000 supporter milestone and therefore qualify for the First 2021 review. TBH, I wouldn’t have notice this news if not for one particular proposed set: LEGO Astronaut by legotruman.
There is a couple of reasons why the proposed LEGO Astronaut by legotruman is awesome. For those don’t already know, Legotruman is the same person behind approved LEGO Ideas Vincent Van Gogh The Starry Night set.
First, while we celebrate the ingenuity and engineering of NASA, we forgotten about the very people that put their lives on the line to do the actual exploration, the astronauts. This proposed set lends the spotlight on those professionals.
Secondly, it is a freaking brick build astronaut! Like, do we need more reasons to say it is awesome?
Legotruman’s astronaut is based on NASA Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) spacesuit used in missions to the International Space Station (ISS). The proposed set is posable too, having 12 points of articulation plus independently movable fingers.
The set features adjustable light units, requisite prints of NASA and mission logos, and the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), used by astronaut Bruce McCandless II to complete the first untethered spacewalk.
When completed, the 927-piece set would measure 20.5 x 15.6 x 25 cm (8 x 6.3 x 10 inches).
Well, now that legotruman’s LEGO Astronaut made into the review stage, we can only hope for the best it get selected.
However, it will be an uphill task as there are so many good sets being considered, including the Train Bookends, Bowling Alley, the LEGO Scania Next Generation Truck, The Office and more.
That said, will LEGO make the first by approving more than sets than usual? Perhaps. There is always a first and this could be it.
