Sony Developed Sustainable Paper Material

Sustainability (i.e. slowing the destruction of Earth) is many big corporate’ priority. Sony is no different. However, unlike Apple that removed the charger from its iPhone 12 in the name of environment, Sony have developed a sustainable paper material the company refers to as “Original Blend Material”.

This environmentally conscious and sustainable paper material is made from bamboo, sugar cane fiber and post-consumer recycled paper, and it is recyclable while remaining durable and strong without the involvement of any plastic.

“Original Blend Material” is not a concept, btw. It is being used on the recently announced Sony WF-1000XM4 Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones.

Sony said the packaging of the WF-1000XM4 was left uncolored “to take advantage of the various shades of the material,” whatever that means. To me, it just look pretty classy. At some point, we do get tired of too many colors, don’t we?

Anyways, the WF-1000XM4 won’t be last. It is worthy to mention that the material is totally embossing-friendly.

Moving forward, Sony plans to adopt this material for the packaging of other future products. I would imagine producing this eco-friendly material isn’t cheap and if so, we can expect to find it being use only on high end products. I could be wrong.
