rejoice for all steampunk lovers! i bet you are gonna love Kirk DuQuette for what he has done to the 21st century gadgets that we all love so dearly. Kirk is the brain behind a bunch of creative steampunked modern gadgets that ranges from personal computers to peripherals such as keyboards, to iPad/iPod docks. i am sure most of us known what steampunk is. no? basically, “steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy.” steampunk is closely associated with the rustic vintage look, gears and cogs, and the heavy use of brass elements.
i love what Kirk did, but i think you gotta have a setting that matches these steampunk gadgets. else it would certainly look out of place. among Kirk’s work of art is a steampunk wireless keyboard and laser mouse combo that talks to the computer via a 2.4 GHz USB receiver. these keyboards feature disc-shaped keys that reminiscences the keys on those vintage mechanical typewriters and surrounded in various finishes such as hand-painted faux marble, burl walnut, and gold or silver engine turn effect. as can see from the images, even LCD display are not spared from being steampunked. they are being put through man-made aging process and given a combination of marble, gold and brass treatment.
i’d say it is the most awesome computer and peripherals i have seen in years. those who interested in Kirk’s works will be glad to know that Kirk has put some of his wonderful creation on say on Etsy store and eBay. all items are hand-made to order and are only available to those in U.S.
