Smartwatch is essentially digital watch and hardly can they be considered a tuxedo-party worthy timepiece, if you can even call them timepiece at all. However, in recent time we have seen electronics makers putting effort to make them less ‘geeky’. To be honest, there are only a handful who actually achieved that and among them are the likes of Huawei Watch, LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360 and the one by Michael Bastian. So, if you are looking for smartwatch that won’t look funny in a boardroom meeting, the option is really limited, but there was another which we think could fit the bill and that’s the Sony Smartwatch 3 Stainless Steel Edition.
Unveiled at the world’s biggest consumer electronics show earlier this year, the Sony Smartwatch 3 is basically a cosmetically “souped up” Smartwatch 3 announced late last year. Which means it gets the same innards, including a 1.2GHz quad ARM A7 processor, a modest 512MB of RAM and 4GB eMMC for storage. It also gets a 1.6-inch TFT LCD display touting 320 x 320 resolution and IP68 rated for water proofing. Other features include built-in microphone, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, GPS, NFC support, a 420 mAh battery – good for up to two days of ‘normal use’, and bunch a handful of sensors such as ambient light sensors, accelerometer, compass and gyro.
This latest wearable from the Japanese electronics giant runs on Google’s Android Wear, which is supposed to make smartwatch more, well, useful on its own. The Sony Smartwatch 3 Stainless Steel Edition is available as we speak, but oddly, pricing is not listed online in the U.S. All we know it will cost you a premium of £229.99 in the U.K. (‘regular’ Sony Smartwatch 3 goes for £189.99, btw).
