Google wants your kids to be independent while keeping taps on their health and safety with new wearable tech from Fitbit. Revealed yesterday, the Fitbit Ace LTE is a smartwatch for children. Described as “a new, first-of-its-kind connected smartwatch for kids ages and up, it is a fun watch that blends exercise with play while keeping safe without parents hovering over them all the time like a helicopter.
Like any good smartwatch with fitness tracking capabilities, the Fitbit Ace LTE recognizes various activities and displays the progress on a fun “Noodle” activity ring. The watch offers interactive games in which kids can unlock game time by moving. Google said new games will be added regularly.
This smartwatch for your young ones also lets you track your kids when they are not with you. Only parents can view the location and activity data thus safeguarding your little ones’ privacy while letting you have peace of mind. The data—location, activity, and all—will be deleted after set periods. There are no ads or third-party apps that will jeopardize your kids’ privacy.
The watch features a thing called Eejies, which are customizable creatures that, wait for it… feed off daily activity. Eejies serve as another motivation for kids to keep moving. Interestingly, the watch bands are not just any old watch bands. They are collectible bands that unlock different in-game items and experiences. Why does it sound more fun than my Apple Watch Ultra?
The smartwatch further offers real-time location tracking, messaging, calling, and setting management through the Fitbit Ace app. The hardware itself is designed with kids in mind. It is colorful, fun, and durable, featuring water-resistant up to 50 meters (164 feet), scratch-resistant, and dustproof with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Finally, it is outfitted with a battery good for over 16 hours in between charges.
The Fitbit Ace LTE Smartwatch for Children is available for pre-order for US$229.95 at the Google Store and on Amazon.com. Before you take the plunge, you gotta know there is a catch. To have all the functions—including messaging and calling, it requires a Fitbit Ace Pass which costs US$9.99 a month or US$119.99 a year for LTE connectivity and access to games. The Fitbit Ace LTE will hit the shelves starting June 05, 2024.
It is worth noting that the Fitbit Ace LTE is not the first smartwatch for kids. We have seen quite a number. There is one from Fennec, Xiaomi, OKII, and Huawei – just to name a few.
